Paris: Little Hanoi
There is a place, far, far away, on the other side of the city — in the up-and-coming ‘hood known as Belleville, aka the 20th — where I love to go for Vietnamese food. I read about Little Hanoi in Le Point when I first arrived, and it immediately became my favorite place for bo bun, nems, spring rolls, and the most incredible pho perhaps anywhere.
Sometimes I get this lovely lemongrass chicken; other times, it’s the bo bun, but lately, because the weather’s been rather wet and cool, I’ve been in the mood for soup.
This particular pho is a mix of chicken and beef broth, noodles, shrimp ravioli, pork, and Chinese five-spice powder, but that’s about all I’ve been able to get out of the waitress. The price? Just 11 euros, if you can believe. Xavier and I ate there last night (with two nems apiece, too!) for just 25 euros. See? It is possible to eat cheaply in Paris. Just not in my neighborhood.
