Santa Fe: Nathalie Book Signing
It’s been a year or so since I tracked down Nathalie Kent, the French cowgirl with a boutique on Canyon Road in Santa Fe…and immediately decided that the two of us would be friends. She’s a former accessories editor at French Vogue, which shows in the way she pulls together and easy Frenchy meets Southwest style at Nathalie. I got it — and her — immediately, and when we realized that we were both from the same arrondisement in Paris, too, it just seemed like we were destined to find each other.
And when I told Nathalie that my cookbook was coming out, she told me she wanted to host a book signing event on her patio, which we did on the fourth friday of May, traditionally the time each month when the dozens of galleries along Canyon Road throw open their doors an invite people in for a peek.
We set up a table outside on her patio, and Wily Jim played cowboy songs while I signed books and the sun set as a cool breeze flapped the flags of Texas and France overhead. We drank turquoise lemonade and snacked on Texas Killers cookies, and afterwards, went to the local hangout La Choza for some of the most fiery hot pork adovada — and best margaritas — I’ve ever tasted.
As anyone who knows me knows, I love Santa Fe to pieces, and I just knew I had to include New Mexico (and as much green chile as I could eat in a week) on my book tour. Turns out, the Nathalie stop was only the beginning…
Stay tuned for a report on the next stop on my tour.
In the meantime, a big ol’ Texas hug and two kisses on the cheek to Nathalie (the birthday girl) and Jim for hosting me. I’ll see you soon. xo
